A Childhood Marked by Tragedy
Cristine grew up in General Santos, South Cotabato, in a family that believed in standing together through life’s challenges. But when she was just 11, everything changed.
Her father, a humble farmer, fell seriously ill with liver disease. The only hope for his survival was a transplant—something their family simply couldn’t afford. Despite their best efforts, they had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go.
Just as they were learning to live without him, another tragedy struck. Cristine’s mother, their source of strength, died in a sudden accident. At 16, she and her siblings were left without parents, without support, and without a clear path forward.
Losing Hope After Losing Everything
The weight of loss was unbearable. Grief turned into hopelessness, and for a while, Cristine felt like her dreams had died with her parents
“I didn’t want to live anymore because I thought I couldn’t go on without them,” she admits. “I was angry at God. I couldn’t understand why life had to be so painful.”
Her aunt did her best to support Cristine’s college education, but financial struggles made it difficult. Just when hope seemed out of reach, an opportunity arose.
A Second Chance Through Education
In 2012, Cristine became a Real LIFE scholar. More than just financial support, she found a community that believed in her. Through mentorship and encouragement, she rediscovered hope—not just in herself, but in God’s plans for her life.
With perseverance and support, she earned a degree in Accounting Technology in 2015 and became a certified bookkeeper. That same year, she landed a job in an accounting firm, allowing her to help her younger brother finish his studies as well.
Thriving and Giving Back
Today, Cristine is thriving as an account executive for a leading software development and business consulting firm. Her company entrusted her with leading a new branch, where she trains and manages a team.
Beyond her professional success, she remains committed to giving back. Whenever she can, she volunteers with Real LIFE in General Santos, mentoring scholars who, like her, once felt lost.
“I know what it’s like to feel like there’s no future,” she shares. “That’s why I want to encourage others—because I’m proof that God can turn even the most painful situations around.”
